I think he either felt he needed to admit a mistake he didn't make or was forced to. He should have stood up for himself and stood by his call, regardless of what anyone said. Joyce was thinking he got call wrong because in reality, he prob though afterwards he could have let it slide. By the book, on a force play, the player receiving the ball must demonstrate control of the ball. In this case, the on field call at the time was correct. The player receiving the ball was "juggling" the ball. and did not control it until after the runner hit the base, In my opinion, Joyce should have had bigger "balls" and explained the rule properly instead of being apologetic. Even last year, when he was hurt, he put up as good as numbers as anyone else in the league.

Just for fun, I looked up all of the numbers for the National Leauge third basemen, and Jones is far and away the best. To be fair, Wright is close, but still lags behind in everything. That's per 162 game average.

I think it started early in his career, when he got caught having the affair and they played the Mets in the playoffs that year. Seems he's never been the media darling all the rest of them have been, either because of New York, or an occassional playoff trip.
