Trying to bring a little common sense to the game of baseball. But considering many of the people who read baseball blogs, I'm probably just pissing into the wind.

What this is all about

I don't know, really. This is a project at work, and there is no telling the tone or form it will take. What it will be about is baseball. You know, the game itself. Throwing the ball, hitting the ball, and catching the ball. On the field stuff, issues that affect how the game is played, and the people who play, coach, manage, umpire, and are otherwise involved.

What it won't be about (mostly) is the crap that happens off the field. I don't care about the steroids debate; I don't care about the lives of the players and their families and girlfriends. I don't care about their criminal records, and their lifestyles, and I don't care about their paychecks.

Every time a player is mentioned, I won't mention their life story, I won't talk about their acquaintances, and I don't care what old retired players are doing, unless it's something to do with the game. I'm not here to insult them unnecessarily about what happens on the field, but to try and give objective analysis, without being a jerk about it.

I'm not going to talk about many specific games, but will talk about individual plays as they affect the game itself, players who have an impact on the overall game, and any issue that affects how the game transpires on the field.

Just so you are aware, some of the things I am against:

Things I am for:

expansion to 32 teams
double headers
a shorter season (154 games)
utility players and back-up catchers
more day games
rookies
veterans
complete games
4-man pitching rotations
stolen bases
great defense
sabermetrics
traditional statistics

This is not a comprehensive list, of course, and on occasion, I will break these rules and write about something that I feel needs to be brought up. There are some subjects that are important enough to write about that I’ll have to break these simple rules. It’s my blog, I can do that.

If anyone ever does come here to read, and leaves comments, that's great. I highly encourage it. However, keep it clean, and no insults. No tangents into politics, religion, and third world nations. Those comments will not be allowed, and will be deleted.

Simple basic things, for a simple basic game.

  2. Hi, You checked out my blog, "The On Deck Circle," several days ago. Thanks for that. I told you I will be sure to check out your blog once it's up and running, so here I am!
BTW, I agree with you on most of those items, although I am actually in a couple of different fantasy baseball leagues.
I look forward to your next post, and I'll add you to my blog roll. Cheers, Bill
